My aim in teaching is to convey the joy of thinking and to transfer the enthusiasm for science to students. In practice, this can be achieved by fostering discussions between students, or providing regular feedbacks between students and the teacher. The latter point can be improved by employing techniques associated with E-teaching approaches (mailing lists, electronic bulletin boards, asynchronous student-teacher communication, etc.). Internet-based teaching opens up a whole new world of possibilities that allow for a better interaction between teacher and student and new ways of explorative learning. Nevertheless, I am an enthusiastic field geologist and in my opinion, geo-systems and processes are best presented in the field and should be studied firsthand in our “natural laboratory”.
However, regardless of the applied technique, teaching is always measured by its outcome: motivated and skilled students. To keep students motivated is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching and therefore, my teaching goal.
